Skin in the Game

Anyone who exercises authority, gives advice, designs policy or imposes risk should share exposure to the consequences. This is not only an ethical preference but an information mechanism: people decide differently when failure has personal cost. Systems become dangerous when decision-makers capture the upside and transfer the downside to others.
